“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. In the same way they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.  In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16

Leading a loved one to Christ is one of the most beautiful experiences a believer can have. But the journey leading up to this point can be heartbreaking. Discouragement can set in as you wonder whether God really hears your prayers. I know from personal experience how painful this process can be.

Although my prayers have been in earnest, I’m so grateful that God has reminded me He has already made salvation available to anyone who will accept it. The realization of this truth not only has brought me an incredible sense of peace, it has also helped me to shift the focus of my prayers.

I no longer concentrate on Christ’s ability or desire to save; I now focus my prayers on becoming someone who lives a life that truly reflects Jesus’ love. I continually ask God to help me become a living witness for Him, so that my life would be a light that demonstrates His goodness and leads others to Him.

This is what Matthew is saying to us in this passage of Scripture. Yes, as believers our prayers have power, and yes, we can pray for a harvest of souls. But ultimately, our love is what God will use to draw others close to Him.

Thank You Jesus that You love ______ and desire the best for them. Thank You Lord that You are sending light laborers across their path. Help me to demonstrate Your love in a way that they will receive it and respond to it by accepting You as Lord. Amen.
