“You are not slaves; you are free. But your freedom is not an excuse to do evil. You are free to live as God’s slaves.” 1 Peter 2:16

A slave’s life is dictated by the master’s commands. A free person gets to choose what to do. Wait a minute! That means we have the pressure of choosing between different possibilities. Which is better?

Well, now you know the importance of wisdom. Wisdom is all about making good choices. Wise choices. Choices that are for the best.

If you are like me you’ve made some choices that you realized later were not very smart. So you kicked yourself and resolved to make better choices next time. Experience matters!

Experience is one of the ways God helps us gain wisdom. A fool has the same experience over and over but does not change. A wise person reflects, and sets a different path.

Fortunately, God provides some other powerful ways to acquire wisdom. We can also rely on His Word and seek counsel from His Spirit. That’s the best wisdom of all.

Do you want to grow in wisdom? Then grow deeper in the teaching of the Bible. Do you want to make better choices? Be faithful in seeking the guidance of His Spirit.

Where will you find the greatest wisdom of all? “In Christ are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge” (Colossians 2:3).

The Apostle Peter gives a paradox. We are free, he says, to live as God’s slaves. Dr. Bill Bright who founded Campus Crusade for Christ liked to say that he was a “slave by choice” to Jesus Christ.

There is no better way to gain wisdom!

Father, all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are available to me in Your son Jesus. Would You please be kind and gracious to me with that wisdom. I want to choose wisely to honor You. Amen.

Take Action

Is there a choice today that needs a second look to ensure you are choosing with wisdom? Don’t rush into it. Ask God for His wisdom.
