Several couples headed out of town together. Our friends, who were arriving later, got the call. “Help, one of my wife’s shoes fell out of the car. Can you please keep your eyes open and see if you can find it when you drive up? It was orange.”

As we sat around the dinner table, we prayed that the last couple would find the shoe. We agreed that it was highly unlikely since no one knew for sure where it had been dropped. While we were praying, so were the driver and his wife. They were looking, asking God to show them the shoe.

Then we got the call from our late–arriving friends. The lost had been found! As we sat later and reflected on the incredible return of the shoe, we marvelled that anyone should have been able to see that orange shoe by the side of the road while driving past at full speed.

We couldn’t help but see that God was the one not only answering all of our prayers, but also giving them eyes to see, and ears to hear His message, “Look, over there! There in the gravel... an orange shoe.”

How many others had driven right past without seeing a thing? But as they were looking, they were listening for God’s voice to direct them as to where to look.

Are you facing the impossible but have been afraid to ask God for help lest He not answer? Ask anyway, and then listen for His voice guiding you in the right direction.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you that you are speaking us today and every day. Help me not to be afraid to ask and then give me ears to hear your answer. Help me to recognize your voice when I hear it. Open my ears so I can hear. Amen.

Go Deeper — Do you feel like God doesn’t speak to you? Ask Him by His Holy Spirit to give you ears to hear his voice. He is already speaking to you!
