In your Christian experience, you’ve no doubt felt called to make sacrifices and forego certain aspirations for the sake of a greater future reward. It takes an incredible amount of trust in God and surrender to forfeit things we hold dearly or dearly want. We may not know how it will be beneficial in the end. We must believe that God knows what is best for us even when we do not understand the circumstances.

Naomi had lost her husband as well as her sons. Her only living relative, Ruth, decided to follow Naomi wherever she went and worship the same God she worshipped. The sacrifice came out of a strong sense of family unity. The bond between these two women would be everlasting. As a result of this sacrifice amidst deep uncertainty, Ruth remarried and became the great-grandmother of David. Ruth forfeited a familiar life but became a key member in the lineage of Christ.

Are things uncertain and unfamiliar in your life? Have you had to let go of something without yet understanding how that sacrifice fits into God’s plans for you? Know that God's plan is good and as Paul said to the Philippians: "Be confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus" (Philippians 1:6).

Dear Jesus, help me to fully trust in you when things are uncertain. I do not understand everything that is happening, but I know that I am not alone. You are with me through it all. Amen.
