I remember making the decision, in an instant, to turn my back on what God was asking of me. Instead, I chose to follow my own desires. As a result, I lost two years of unopened doors and opportunities that kept me from using my gift in worship and music.

Sometimes we feel we have no control over things in our lives. Other times, there are choices we can make along the journey. Some of the times we make good choices. At other times, we stumble and choose poorly, reaping detrimental consequences.

John 1:29 says that ”Jesus came to take away the sins of the world.” In 2 Corinthians 5:17, it says, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”

When we give our lives to Jesus, we choose to believe that Jesus came to take the burden of sin from us so we may live freely in him. We agree that his will for us, which includes enjoying his presence and all he has to offer, is a gift from a loving and gracious Father.

Choosing Jesus means choosing life. It means saying yes to how God intends for us to live, and accepting his plan as the best choice we can make. It is allowing his Holy Spirit to guide our decisions. Once we do, we will realize that nothing could be better!

Heavenly Father, thank you for giving me life through your son Jesus, who died on the cross to take my sin away so I can live freely. Give me your power to make the right choices in life so I may live as you created me to live. Amen.

Throughout this Day: Take a moment and spend time with God, confessing your sin and asking His forgiveness. Thank Jesus for taking it upon himself to die, carrying your burden, and in return, giving you new life.
