Have you ever boarded a vehicle that remained stationary instead of moving? What were your emotions like? I'm sure the excitement of the potential journey was dampened by boredom, frustration, and complaints. When something like this happens, the natural reaction is to get out of the car and walk home in protest.

Our relationship with the Lord is compared to a journey. It all starts with believing in Christ, and then a relationship develops from there. A person begins to actively seek opportunities to grow by studying Scripture, praying, and attending fellowships where they can meet other people who share their beliefs.

Following Jesus is a faith walk; the picture is not entirely clear when we first embark on the journey with him. It is a departure from the familiar to live an unimaginable life with Jesus, trusting and relying on him at every turn. It is a call to sacrificial living, but it is a worthwhile sacrifice because of the benefits we receive as we journey through life with him.

Paul compares a believer's life to a plant and a building. The soil provides nourishment to the roots. Without a foundation, a building cannot stand on its own. We can't do life without Jesus, believe it or not. The prerequisite for faith growth is how deeply we grow in the things of the Lord. When we set aside our preconceived notions about who Jesus is, the picture that the world has painted about him, and what the enemy tries to portray negatively about him, we will see him for who he is: a loving, merciful, forgiving, faithful, and just God.

Do you want to flourish like a well-watered garden? The secret is to dive deep, allow your roots to grow deeper, and find nourishment from him who fully satisfies. Then, as you reflect on God's goodness in your lives, your heart will burst with gratitude.

Precious Lord and Savior, thank you for the truth that is found in your Word. Help me by your Holy Spirit to launch deeper and grow in my faith and walk with you. Amen.

Throughout the Day: Ask the Holy Spirit to help you keep the truth that was first taught to you as sacred and to allow him to be your teacher and guide.
