Hope. It’s hard to hold onto. When life gets tough, hope can feel elusive and slippery. When one thing after another brings you to your knees, and you are not sure you can take it any longer, where is hope?

Lately, I’ve been struggling to keep hopeful, especially with some relationships in my life. After endless arguments, I don’t see how those relationships can be healed.

Maybe for you, you're struggling to remain hopeful due to experiencing never-ending difficulties at your work. Or perhaps, you've just received a scary diagnosis that has brought your life to a screeching halt.

Hope is something we have to fight for and choose to continue doing. But how?

Today’s passage gives us the key. As Christians, we are equipped with the power of the Holy Spirit. We don’t have to hold on to hope by ourselves, for the Holy Spirit gives us help to not only have hope, but to overflow with hope.

How awesome is that?

Today, if you feel like giving up, hang in there. Stop grasping at straws, and simply reach out to God. Jesus is our living hope (1 Peter 1:3). Hope isn’t some elusive emotion, but a person. And hope, himself, is reaching out to you.

I know it’s hard, trust me. But when you can’t fight anymore, simply be still and know that he is God. Ask the Holy Spirit to fill you up and fill you with renewed hope. Choose to trust in God. As you do, hope, joy, and peace will fill you up and overflow.

Lord, thank you that you do not leave me alone to figure this out. Help me to trust you and to hold onto hope. Holy Spirit, I ask that you fill me to overflowing with joy, peace, and hope. Amen.
