“But in their distress they turned to the LORD, the God of Israel, and sought him, and he was found by them.”  2 Chronicles 15:4

A prophet, filled with the Spirit, came to meet Asa to instruct and enable him to call the people of Israel to repent and return to the Lord.  The land was full of troubles and the people were in distress.  The Lord promised that when troubles drove them to God – they would seek Him and He promised to be found by them.

When Asa heard the prophet’s words, he courageously began to act.  He removed the idols of worship, he repaired the altar of the Lord, and he assembled the people and with boldness and clarity, he shared the message of repentance and reform with them.

The people began to worship and entered into a covenant with the Lord: to seek Him with all of their hearts and souls.  Verse 15 says, “All Judah rejoiced about the oath because they had sworn it wholeheartedly.  They sought God eagerly, and he was found by them.  So the Lord gave them rest on every side.”

In their distress, they returned to the Lord. They promised to seek Him wholeheartedly. They acted on the covenant they made with the Lord, and He transformed their hearts and lives and they experienced His perfect peace.

Today, the Lord continues to call us.  In essence, the Lord says to us, "Seek Me with all of your heart; act on what I show you to do; worship Me only and forsake your idols. Return to Me and you will surely find Me - I promise!"

Heavenly Father, I want to seek You with all of my heart.  Help me to act on what You show me to do and help me to worship you only and forsake any idols I have in my life.  I return to You with all that is within me! Amen.

Take Action

Wait before the Lord in prayer.  Do you have any “idols” in your life - things that you have put before God or as your power source?  Let Him search your heart, repent and return to the Lord with all of your heart.  Act on what He leads you to do.
