“That all of them may be one, Father, just as You are in me and I am in You. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that You have sent me.” John 17:21

We were created for intimacy.

And so often we walk away from it. We have deeper relationships with our smart phones than with others. We pursue things that make us feel good or that give us a sense of purpose; we separate ourselves from people to protect ourselves from being hurt. And in the end, we feel empty.

What we really need of is not what this world has to offer. Only a deep connection with God and others will fill this void inside.

At the center of Jesus' identity was His relationship to His Father. It’s because of such intimacy that Jesus said, “Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father” (John 14:9).

Being intimate with God touches the very core of why we were created, and we won’t be satisfied without experiencing it.

We all have tasted the emptiness of the world and the counterfeit joy it throws our way. Without forming an intimate relationship with our heavenly Father through Jesus, our lives will be lived in utter void.

The oneness that Jesus had with His Father was not just a simple matter of mutual thoughts or feelings. It was a matter of a shared life (John 4:34, 5:19, 8:28).

Jesus prayed that we too would experience this oneness with Him and His Father, living out a life shared in unity with them.  And when we abide in Him and He in us, our Heavenly Father will also be made known.

Heavenly Father, I want to know You more deeply. I desire to live my life wholly and completely abandoned to You and Your ways. Open the eyes of my heart so I may love You more and follow Your will in my life.  Amen.
