“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son.” John 3:16a
What are you going to give in this season of thanksgiving? God demonstrated His love to us by giving His own son. He didn’t withhold Him. God proved His generosity towards us. How should we respond to that? How will you be a blessing to others in this season?
“Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth” (1 John 3:18).
There are many things we can give:
- Time – You could volunteer to serve those who are helpless, those who don’t have a family to celebrate with or those who don’t have a place to call home.
- Money – There are various organisations that are helping those in need. You might not have the time to volunteer but you can donate to help cover the costs.
- Food – There are food banks all around that we can give to.
- Encouragement – It might be just what someone needs most this season.
These are only suggestions. I believe we can ask the Lord exactly what He wants us to do to be a blessing to someone. There is something you and I can do to show our love to others. Nothing is too small. Sometimes we focus on our own needs, but this is a time to shift our focus from our own challenges and put a smile on someone’s face.
Father, by your Holy Spirit, please reveal to us what you would have us give this season, so we can respond appropriately to your generosity to us. Amen.
