Think about someone that you love very much – a child, your spouse, your parent. Now imagine them calling to you for help. Would you do everything that you could to get them what they need?

The world’s shortest prayer is the human heart crying out the name of Jesus. In this prayer is the cry of an imperfect creature calling on He who is the same “yesterday, today, and forever” and yet came as a particular person in world history, with a particular face, and a particular name, to call us to repentance and welcome us as friends.

This verse is also for those of us who already know Jesus and need to continue to cling to Him as savior.

Do you ever feel overwhelmed by the challenges of life and ministry? What are some of the challenges you encounter in sharing the gospel with others? Name these struggles. Then call His name. Ask Jesus to help you.

He is more than willing. In fact, He was just waiting for you to ask.

Jesus, help me to trust in You with all my heart. Help me to share about Your love with others, that we may all call upon your name and be saved. Change many hearts through my life, starting with my own. And may all this be done in Your holy name, in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Go Deeper — Write the name of Jesus somewhere so you can read it every day. Every time you see it, try to take a few moments to call on His name.
