I miss my kids being toddlers. Those were fun times when they believed everything I said without question. Some things I was terrified of my toddler finding out:

  1. Public parks don’t randomly close.
  2. TVs don’t run out of batteries.
  3. There is no actual world record for “fastest at putting away toys”.
  4. Chicken “the animal” and chicken “the food” are one and the same.

Once they gained that knowledge, I had to up my parenting game.

It’s a little like that before we received Christ into ourlives. We could get away with doing certain things because we just didn’t know. But God sent us the — Best. Gift. Ever. This gift is the unencumbered, unadulterated, untainted love of Jesus Christ.

It never loses its value. It keeps on giving. You can give it away as much as you like, and you will still have an abundance left over for yourself. It enhances every person’s life who has received the gift by faith.

There was a day when I didn’t fully understand what this gift meant. Then one day, it just came to me like a flood.

Unlike me when my kids were toddlers, God is not terrified of you finding out the truth and knowing what it means. He can’t wait to watch you unwrap that gift and use it for the rest of your life. Like I said — Best. Gift. Ever.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for sending your only Son as the best gift ever. Thank you for sacrificing him for sinners like me. Please help me to always remember that gift and to share it with as many people as I can. In Jesus name, amen.

Go Deeper —Think about the best gift you have ever received. Think back to how happy and joyful you were. Now imagine that same joy that someone else will feel when you share the love of Christ with them. Help them to feel the same joy you remember.
