“The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”  1 Samuel 16:7

We have been bombarded by the lie that what’s on the outside is more important than what is inside a person. But we are called to see past surfaces.  We are called to see with the eyes of our loving Father - a Father who looks at the heart.

It is strange how easy it is to judge the outward appearance, something so trivial and insignificant.  Yet we are often blinded to seeing the hearts we come across on a daily basis. We don’t see the ones that are so dry they are withering away.  We can walk right past a heart with walls so thick and high, only the jealous love of God can break through.

When we are ravished by the love of God, His love opens our eyes to really see those around us. He gives us the opportunity to help and the means – out of His great love – to do it. We were created to receive God’s love and pour that love into a world filled with broken hearts. Don’t miss a chance to share that love.

Father God, I repent for being so entirely focused on the things of this world…the things so unimportant and insignificant.  Open my eyes to see what YOU see.  Show me the people who long to be touched by your love.  May I be a vessel who not only receives Your love but pours out your love into every heart I come in contact with.    Amen.

Take Action

Seek out someone this week who that you might not seem like you have much in common with.  Take some time with that person and listen to their heart.  Pour the love of Jesus into their life – whether that’s in listening without judgment, or helping in a practical way.
