“Your mission should you choose to accept it…” is a famous line from a famous movie series called Mission Impossible.

If you have seen the movies you know that the star faces insurmountable odds, but he pulls it off every time. That really bothers me because the name of the series is called “Mission Impossible”. There are 7 of them in the Tom Cruise versions. How many times does he need to succeed on these impossible missions before they change the name to “Mission probably likely”?

God gave us a mission to preach the gospel. Somewhere along the line we took that message to mean we must save people. But it’s not our mission to save anyone. In fact, we couldn’t save people even if we wanted to. Our job is to tell people about the good news and let God handle the res, all the while seeking to be the best Christ followers we can, in dependence on the Spirit for the ability to do so.

Speaking from experience, we are going to fail multiple times doing that. But the mission remains the same. It hasn’t changed. Don’t confuse it and add your own spin. Just keep it simple and the mission will be easier. God is asking you to accept the mission of joining him in spreading the gospel. It is a huge honor. What will your answer be?

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for allowing me to help spread your gospel to everyone I know. I know you could do it yourself, but you chose me to be a part of something special. Grant me wisdom, strength, and understanding as I take on this mission. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Throughout This Day: Walk with God, inviting him to show you the opportunities he is giving you to talk with people about him.
