A few days ago, I bought some beverages at the grocery store, expecting them to have a distinctive fruit flavor. They lived up to their name however. Basically the drink is water with just a taste of blackberry, pineapple, or whatever. They contain just enough flavor to make me want more flavor.

In my limited experience with special needs children and American sign language, I know that one of the most basic signs a nonverbal child usually learns is the sign for “more.” “More” is a basic tool in our vocabulary to indicate need or desire. It is also a tool God desires for us to lift up to him, as we realize that he is the fulfiller of our deepest desires.

While I was drinking my supposedly blackberry water this afternoon, I thought about how this drink is kind of like what the Christian life should be like to others. Wherever I go, I want to leave a taste of Jesus, to make others want more. This is what we all can seek — this food and drink that cannot be bought with physical currency. Here is a resource called the examen that can help in your pursuit of being more like Christ.

I was disappointed in these drinks I bought and probably won’t buy more, even though they are exactly what they promised to be. No matter how much I drink, that hint of a taste is never enough. I know that at times, we all face this. Even the best of life is somehow not enough. Jesus is not like that though. While just a taste of him can keep us wanting more, drinking deeply of his life and love can satisfy us beyond our wildest dreams.

_Dear Father, Thank you for Jesus, the living water, the only water that fully and forever satisfies. Help us to reach out to others with this water, leaving a taste of it behind everywhere we go. In Jesus’ name, amen. _

Throughout this day: Think of specific situations or circumstances where you have you seen that Jesus is enough for you.

Here is a song I love called “Holy Water” which can help you dwell more on this topic.
