Find satisfaction in Christ, check out this blog post.

"Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days." Psalm 90:14 (ESV)

I recently and unexpectedly lost one of my well-loved jobs. The type of job I had lost could only be applied for at a specific time of the year, which made things even more difficult for me. I knew the situation was impossible, but of course, with God all things are possible. So I prayed and fasted and prayed some more. And as I did so I thought about the verse in which God says He satisfies our desires. I mistakenly thought God, if you satisfy our desires, then you will satisfy my desire for a new job exactly like my old one. I have got to have it, and I won’t be satisfied until I get something like it.

I think we all come to a crossroad in our life where we truly believe that God will give us that one thing we desire, whether it be a new job, roommate, spouse, children, etc. Yet the verses that speak about satisfying our desires don’t actually mean what we tend to think - that is, if I just pray for what I desire most I will get it- rather they talk about being satisfied in Christ. Satisfaction in Christ means that no matter what, even if I don’t receive that new job, children, or a spouse, I will be content, because I have found satisfaction in Him alone and realize nothing else could satisfy any longing of mine. Yes, the material things may bring temporary satisfaction, but nothing can bring eternal satisfaction like Christ can.

Are you struggling to be satisfied in Christ alone? You aren’t alone. Many struggle to receive their sole satisfaction from Christ. Look to Him for your source of satisfaction and drink deeply of the fountain of life!

Dear Lord, please satisfy our hearts in You alone. Allow our desires to mesh with Your desires, so we will only desire what You have for us. Amen.

Take Action

Think about all the things you currently desire. Is there anything that you feel you have to have at all costs or else you will be unhappy? If so, make an effort to pray that God’s will would be done in your life for that situation on a daily basis, being submissive to whatever His will is for you concerning that. Make an effort to increase your time in the Word and in prayer. Satisfaction in Christ can only be had when we make Him the most important thing in our lives. Only then will the desires you cling to the most be stripped away as you find pleasure in Christ.
