How can I get through a crisis of faith?

I’m going to be honest here, when I first hear the word "supreme", I think of peppers and mushrooms on top of pepperoni and crust. Yum, at least according to my dad. I just like the pepperoni part. God gave me this word for a devotional, though, so I know there’s definitely more to it than that.

I guess the thought of peppers and mushrooms is comic relief for what is really on my heart: so many questions about God and his supremeness. I’ve been reading and believing the Bible for well, most of my life, and I still do. But lately, I’ve been having a bit of a crisis of faith. I love Jesus. I worship the three persons of the godhead wholeheartedly, but there are things in the Bible I don’t understand. I want to, but I don’t. I struggle at times trusting that God is supreme when I don’t understand his ways.

So what does supreme mean? Basically, it’s the highest, the best, the most powerful. Definitely not a supreme pizza!

In the context of Christian life, saying that Jesus is a supreme being is saying that he is the perfect example. He is God in human form. That thought gives me hope. Jesus, God in the flesh, is not only supremely perfect, he was supremely human while on this earth. He cried out to God the father in agony, knowing all the right answers, but still questioning how they worked in his moment of great suffering.

I can handle that kind of supreme, knowing that He cares enough to have shared my world, my suffering, my questions. That’s love, and love, more than anything else, is what draws me to God. It’s because of his love that I have hope and can live the way he wants me to live.

Supreme love. So much more satisfying than a supreme pizza.

Jesus, wow, thank you. Thank you that in you I find the reason to believe, the reason to live each day. You are supreme in every sense of the word, and you are my supreme love.

Throughout this Day: Have you ever faced a crisis of faith? How can you embrace God’s supreme love today?
