"I would rather be a gatekeeper in the house of my God
than live the good life in the homes of the wicked.
For the Lord God is our sun and our shield.
He gives us grace and glory."
Psalm 84:10b-11a

Be excellent. As you go to work today, or as you build into your home or children, or whatever your responsiblity: offer it to God with the dedication of someone who knows that he or she is called. Because, after all, you have been.

"If God calls you to be a street sweeper, never stoop down to become a king."

Martin Luther King, Jr. said this more eloquently:

"If it falls your lot to be a street sweeper, sweep streets like Michelangelo painted pictures, sweep streets like Beethoven composed music, sweep streets like Leontyne Price sings before the Metropolitan Opera. Sweep streets like Shakespeare wrote poetry. Sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will have to pause and say: Here lived a great street sweeper who swept his job well."

Vocation comes from the Latin verb 'to call'; we talk about vocation like it's something lofty, but if we have faith then we trust that wherever we are, we are because on some level God has called us there.

Lord, help me to hear Your voice and live for You. Amen.

What do you do? Do you really live as if it is your vocation?
