“For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him.” John 3:17

I read this quote the other day: “Second chances are given not just to correct mistakes but to determine worth.”

How many times have you found yourself in a situation where you’ve said, “If I had a second chance, I’d do ________”?

There have been moments in my life when I have struggled to break free of the guilt and shame I experienced as a result of the mistakes I’d made in my past. Even after I gave my life to Christ, when I made a mistake, I lived under a constant shadow of condemnation. I bought into the enemy’s lie that God was holding my mistakes against me, or that I had somehow found a way to “out-sin” His grace, mercy, and love for me.

Perhaps, you know that feeling or are experiencing it now.

We live in a fallen world. But before we were born, God knew the path you and I would take: paths that included sin, mistakes, and wrong choices. Because of His great love for us, He determined our worth, anticipated our need for a “do-over,” and sent us His Son Jesus to free us from condemnation and the penalty of sin.

Thank God for the gift of a second chance!

Lord, thank You for Jesus. Through Him we received the ultimate gift of a second chance. Help us to know that our mistakes will never determine our worth to You because You have already determined that we were worth saving! In Jesus’ name, amen.
