My sister-in-law’s home is exquisite. Whenever I walk into her home, I immediately feel peaceful. It’s warm and cuddly inside. There is something about her home that just makes me want to settle in. I suspect I know what it is. The Lord is there.

On occasion when I am in my sister-in-law’s beautiful and tranquil home, I am jealous. I’ll admit it, I want a charming and serene home. Really what I want, though, is the “come in, sit down, be at peace” vibe. I want people to know they are welcome. I want people to know the Lord is there.

As I look back at 2019, I think of all the times I needed God. They were not all the same. Some of them were happy, like the birth of my granddaughter. Some of them were unhappy, like the day my hair had to be shaved off during chemo. There was a common denominator though — the Lord was there.

God is our “ever present source of strength” (Psalm 46:1-3). We don’t have to live in a city named “The Lord is There” to know the Lord is present in our lives. However, sometimes we must sit still for a moment in a quiet space to recognize the Lord’s presence.

It’s important to remember, even in the midst of chaos, that the Lord is there. He is there amongst the rubble when we are rebuilding. He is there when when life seems unremarkable. He is there when we are overflowing with joy. Regardless of our circumstances, the Lord is there.

Thank you God for being ever present in my life. Thank you for making my home a place where you live. Please help me grow to recognize you moving in my daily life. Amen.
