“Live as free people, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as God’s slaves.” 1 Peter 2:16

It's time to see what I can do
To test the limits and break through
No right, no wrong, no rules for me, I'm free!

If you haven’t heard, these are lyrics from “Let It Go,” a song from Disney’s Frozen.

Of course, we all know that when we say, “no rules for me,” we don’t mean to get rid of all the rules. We don’t mind someone telling us, “don’t do drugs,” because we intrinsically understand that doing drugs leads to slavery, also known as addiction.

But what if there is a subtle slavery we submit ourselves to, every time we walk outside the laws of God?

Most people believe we can be enslaved to sinful things, and many certainly believe we can be slaves to God. Where the delusion lies is when we believe that we can live by our own rules, and thus be free.

The Bible confronts this delusion with a shocking conclusion: we are either slaves to sin, or slaves to God. Our choice. No middle way. No third option.

Many of us would be greatly helped to acknowledge that we are not only grieving our Father when we sin, but choosing a cruel master over a loving and benevolent One.

Father, please help me to see that freedom You offer me, even when everything around and inside of me believes that freedom is doing what I want, when I want. I want to give my “Yes” to You! Amen.

Take Action

Is there some area where you have been repeatedly saying “No” to God? An entertainment choice? A relationship? Confront the lie that God is keeping you from freedom. Then, think about where sin leads versus where obedience leads (Romans 8:13).

The world is online. Together we can help them know Jesus! WOULD YOU CONSIDER GIVING TO OUR MINISTRY THIS CHRISTMAS?
