What are your thoughts on adoption? It involves legally bringing another’s child into your life and raising that child as your own. Once the often long and painstaking process is complete, the child automatically acquires a permanent change in status.

In God’s kingdom, believers enjoy the privilege of adoption. They have been adopted into the family of God; thus, they acquire a new status or identity as God’s children. That intimate relationship gives them the confidence to call God “Abba,” which means Daddy.

God’s word reminds us that we have not received a spirit of fear but of power, of love, and of a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). The Holy Spirit gives a believer confidence as God’s child. He lovingly reassures us that we belong to the household of God and that our Father cares about us and is concerned about us as his adopted children. He doesn’t want us to be enslaved by sin.

Any day is a good day to be adopted, to start all over in Christ. Let’s allow his Spirit to guide us to a place of liberty in him. It’s God’s desire for us to live victoriously in his family. God’s Holy Spirit enables us to recognize and appreciate this truth. Christ lovingly extends this invitation to come to him and in so doing, we shall enjoy the benefits of sonship that cannot be given to a stranger.

Heavenly Father, thank you for this truth. I pray that you may deliver me from that which enslaves, that I may live a life of victory in Jesus Christ. I submit myself to your Spirit. Guide and empower me to live a life that is centered in Christ. Amen.
