“Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it.” Habakkuk 2:2

In the aftermath of a busy day, sometimes you may wonder why you are doing it all. Bills stretched out on the counter, half empty and long ago forgotten cups of coffee left over from an overly ambitious morning, waiting to be rinsed, not to mention a headache that stretches from here to tomorrow. Sometimes your days leave just a bit of time for nursing the question, “Why bother?”

If you find yourself asking this question bitterly today or wondering what direction your life is heading, you probably need to spend some time clarifying your vision.

As followers of Christ, we know we are to love God with all of our heart and soul and strength, and to love our neighbor as ourselves (Mark 12:30-31). But we also need to remember that God gives us choices that fit within our giftings and strengths so that we can truly enjoy our time serving the Lord and others. Take a moment this week to do what our daily verse says, and to write your vision down. Ask God to help you determine what your goals are so that those who can catch that vision may run along with you. Together you make your God-given dreams come true!

Dear Lord, I truly want to serve You with everything I have. Please help me to take some time to find out if I am doing the things You want most for me. I pray that You would help me to live well for Your glory, to love You and others with everything I have, and then to enjoy the fruits of that harvest, with the joy I feel from serving You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Take Action

Take a moment to write down the visions and goals you have in your heart, the ones you have felt God giving you most of your life. If you’ve never experienced this kind of dream, ask God for a vision to be cast so you can have His perfect direction. Consider both your gifts and opportunities as you dream, recognizing that God often uses the things already in our lives to start something incredible!
