"Then I was beside Him, as a master workman; and I was daily His delight, rejoicing always before Him, rejoicing in the world, His earth, and having my delight in the sons of men.” Proverbs 8:30-31, NASB.

In C. S. Lewis’ book, The Magician’s Nephew, there is a beautiful scene where Aslan joyously and powerfully sings Narnia into being. That glorious depiction of creation comes to my mind whenever I read Proverbs 8. In this passage, we are reminded of the fact that creation is not only the fruit of God’s wisdom; it is also a source of great rejoicing for Him. Humankind is a source of delight!

Have you ever imagined God rejoicing and delighting over you?

Have you ever pondered the joy and delight that filled God’s heart as He began to put into effect His eternal plan to create and to redeem this world (Ephesians 1:1-14)?

Sometimes I’m discouraged by the devastating effects of the fall on me and on others around me. In those moments, I find it helpful to remember that my all-wise Father allowed the fall with eternity in mind, and that He delights not only in the perfect fulfillment of his eternal purpose, but in the process as well.

Although we are not yet the perfect children we will one day be (1 John 3:1-4), God still delights in us. May we never, ever forget that, especially on those days when we are far from delighted with ourselves.

Father, I am a source of delight for You! How this thought comforts me, encourages me, and astounds me! Thank You for loving me, for rejoicing in me, and for delighting in me. Today, may I walk in joy, rejoicing in Your unfailing wisdom, joy, and love. Amen.
