Recently I finished reading a book by one of my favorite authors that left me feeling satisfied because it was so “real”. The plot was about several families who went through tough times, and tried to make the best of the devastation they faced throughout the story, but probably what I liked the most was that in the end, good was victorious over evil.

As I reflected on all that happened in the story, I realized that the author of a book has so much power! The characters say and do everything at the whim of the author, and as they go through the good, the bad and the ugly of their lives, as written by the author, the end is already determined.

Jesus is the author of my faith. I don’t know what will come, but he does! Thinking about this actually brought a sense of peace to me, because I love and trust Jesus as an author. He is not a whimsical person, but someone who has lived the same sort of story that we all participate in, and who has promised a “happy ending” in spite of all of the challenges and trials that may come our way. He has carefully thought through the faith story of each of us, and knows what we, as the characters of God’s big story, should be and do. All characters in God’s book have weaknesses and failings, but they all are important to the purposes of God being accomplished!

Another word for “author” which is used only in some earlier translations is “originator.” My story was started by Jesus, and he will finish it (Philippians 1:6: But I am confident of this very thing, that he who began the good work in me will complete it until the day Jesus returns.)

The story of your life (and mine) is in good hands! It has already been written by the greatest Author in the world! And it has a happy ending, with good conquering evil! Your story is written into God’s larger story, so it is a God story!

Share your God story with someone today! Perhaps it will be an encouragement to someone who needs to know that their story is also in God’s hands. Or the listener may realize that their life needs to be in the hands of a better author, the author of salvation!

Father God, thank you for authoring the Greatest Story Ever Told! I entrust my personal life’s story to you, today, knowing that it is in the hands of the Greatest Author ever! Amen.

Throughout This Day: Remind yourself often of the promises from this text.
