The other day, I had a hair appointment at my usual place. But because my hairdresser ran out of time, her assistant stepped in to finish blow-drying my hair. Though I didn’t know the assistant very well, she started opening up about her life and how she has dealt with alcoholism since she was very young. Then she started to tell me that her life had drastically changed when she began praying to God and gave her life over to him. She spilled with enthusiasm and the hope of what God had done in her life.

She shared her story.

When we think about witnessing to others about Jesus, we either lack courage or think we don’t know what to say. But when we share our story and what God has done in our personal lives, his Spirit mysteriously flows out of us and tugs at the hearts of those who are listening.

We each have a story to tell. God uses our lives and our circumstances to touch the hearts of those who are in need of him. In fact, God has most used me in the weakest, most vulnerable times in my life. It was when I felt I had nothing to offer that God revealed Himself to those around me more powerfully than I could have ever imagined.

God will use us where we’re at!

It doesn’t matter how bad or how good things are in our lives; all he asks of us is to allow him to take what we have and use it to bring others to him. And he will do the rest.

Thank you, heavenly Father for what you have done in my life. I ask that you would give me moments in my week, even today, to share my story with those around me, and may you draw others close to you through it.  Amen.

Consider This: Take time this week to think about your story. Then, wherever you find yourself this week, share with those around you. God will use it for His glory! For more tips on how to do this, read the two-part series Your Story Matters.
