What’s to lose from addiction to pornography?

A lot. You’ve heard the stories (or even lived through them) — of getting caught in front of the screen, destroying a spouse’s self-image, or breaking a family apart. Porn is a slippery slope to adultery and divorce and leaves millions incapable of having loving and intimate relationships. Whether you pay for it or not, the act of watching pornography supports an industry that abuses thousands of people for profit every single day.

But simply looking at the consequences (or fearing them) isn’t enough. It takes more than that to change our hearts. We must invite the Holy Spirit to take the lead in this fight for purity. We need a vision of life on the winning side of this battle.

One thing that can help us choose to do so is to understand the benefits of doing so.

What’s to gain from victory over pornography?

“Blessed are the pure in heart for they will see God.” Matthew 5:8

We get to see God — to know him intimately and experience him in amazing ways. All you may see right now is your struggle with sexual sin and trying to survive life and put food on the table. But as Dr. Dan Allender says, “You’ve been called to so much more of a beautiful and big story.”

If we constantly live under a cloud of shame and guilt because of our sexual sin, we’ll miss out on the best part of having a relationship with Jesus — seeing him use us to transform people’s lives. But that starts with having a pure heart. Not a perfect one. We need to learn to walk intimately with Jesus into greater victory so we can begin to fulfill his purposes for our lives.

Our friend, Jeff, shared his story of facing addiction to pornography. It's very much worth reading.
